Hey there, anglers! Ready to hit the high seas and tangle with some of Miami's finest fish? Our Extended Half Day Morning Fishing Trip is your ticket to offshore action. We're talking King Mackerel that'll make your drag sing, Grey Snapper that'll test your finesse, and Grouper that'll have you grunting with effort. Whether you're a seasoned salt or just getting your sea legs, we've got the know-how to put you on the fish.
Picture this: You're cruising out of Miami Beach Haulover as the sun's coming up, the skyline fading behind you. We've got 6 hours to make magic happen, and trust me, that time flies when the bite is on. We'll hit Biscayne Bay and beyond, switching up tactics to keep the rods bent. One minute you're trolling for kings, the next you're dropping jigs for grouper. It's all about reading the water and giving those fish what they want.
We don't mess around when it comes to putting fish in the box. We'll be pulling out all the stops - trolling, jigging, bottom fishing - whatever it takes. Our center console is rigged to the nines, ready for whatever the ocean throws our way. We'll start by maybe snagging some live bait, 'cause nothing beats the real deal for enticing those big boys. Then it's game on. We might start by slow-trolling for kings, watching those rods for the telltale dip. Or maybe we'll drop some jigs down deep, feeling for that distinctive thump of a grouper taking the bait. It's all about staying flexible and following the fish.
"My son and I headed out for a fish with Bearcutbandit charters today. The weather wasn't kind but Alek still put us on some some awesome fish and we had a killer day!" - Stewart
"Outstanding trip with my 13 year old son. We caught a few nice fat snappers, then went hunting for mahi and found a nice school! Kept 6 mahi and 3 snappers. Couldn't have been a better experience! Knowledgeable guide, independent operator, born & raised in these waters. He really knows how to put you on the fish!" - Jon
"Great trip and Capt. Alek knows secrets! We started at 0700 with a trip down the beautiful Miami River. Picked up some live bait from a buddy of the Captain's outside Treasure Island. The Captain then put us on a spot that produced 30+ yellowtail snapper, 3 mackerel (1 keeper), and a bonita. We got a minimum of one bite per bait. Sometimes multiple bites per bait. Using mid-range spinning gear, it was non-stop action. Really, a perfect way to spend any morning." - Karl
Gag Grouper: These bruisers are the heavyweight champs of the reef. They love to hang around structure, so we'll be targeting wrecks and ledges. Gags can grow over 50 pounds, and when they hit, you better hold on tight. They're ambush predators, so a well-placed jig or live bait can trigger an explosive strike. The fight is all about power - you gotta muscle them up before they dive back into their rocky lairs.
Scamp Grouper: Don't let their smaller size fool you - Scamps are pound-for-pound fighters. These guys are usually found a bit deeper than their Gag cousins, often hanging out in waters over 100 feet deep. They've got a sweet, delicate flavor that makes them a prized catch for the dinner table. We'll be dropping baits right into their neighborhood, looking for that distinctive grouper thump.
Grey Snapper: Also known as Mangrove Snapper, these guys are the tricksters of the reef. They're wary and quick, with a knack for stealing bait. But when you hook up, it's game on. We'll be using light tackle and small hooks to fool these smart fish. They school up, so when we find them, it can be non-stop action. And let me tell you, there's nothing quite like a fresh snapper fillet on the grill.
Red Grouper: These copper-colored beauties are a staple of the Gulf. They're not as big as Gags, but what they lack in size, they make up for in numbers. Red Grouper are opportunistic feeders, so we'll be using a variety of baits to tempt them - everything from live pinfish to cut squid. They love to hug the bottom, so precise anchoring and bait placement is key.
King Mackerel: Now we're talking speed demons. Kings are the sprinters of the sea, capable of blistering runs that'll have your reel screaming. We'll be trolling for these bad boys, using either live bait or flashy artificial lures. When a King hits, it's all about that first run - if you can survive that, you're in for a fight. They're seasonal visitors, so we time our trips to hit the peak of the run.
Alright, folks, let's cut to the chase - if you're looking for a fishing trip that delivers the goods, you've found it. We're not just another charter; we're your key to unlocking Miami's offshore treasure chest. From the moment we clear the inlet to the final fish in the box, it's all about giving you the best day on the water possible. So what are you waiting for? The fish are biting, the boat's gassed up, and we're ready to make some memories. Book your spot now and let's go bend some rods!

Outstanding trip with my 13 year old son. We caught a few nice fat snappers, then went hunting for mahi and found a nice school! Kept 6 mahi and 3 snappers. Couldn’t have been a better experience! Knowledgeable guide, independent operator, born & raised in these waters. He really knows how to put you on the fish! Filleted them perfectly for us as well (and I’m a Chef, pretty picky about that stuff). We will be back for sure!

He is cordial, experienced, attentive, and focused on you having tight lines. We talked about many other fishing opportunities there in the Miami area and Capt. Alek would definitely be our go-to guy for exploring them. Highly recommend.

My 9 year old and I went out with Captain Alek and we caught fish in both the ocean and intercoastal. I really appreciated the time Alek gave to my 9 year old in helping him fish and be part of the fishing experience. Within 45 minutes of being out on the ocean reef we caught 2 king mackerel and then headed in for different fish. The 6 hours flew by as we had fun fishing and sight seeing. My 9 year old wanted to stay out longer and wants me to book another trip with Captain Alek. Highly recommend Captain Alek!

Gag Grouper are a prized catch around here, known for their strong fight and tasty meat. These fish typically range from 10 to 30 pounds, with some monsters pushing 50+. You'll find them hanging around reefs, wrecks, and rocky bottoms in depths from 60 to 250 feet. Gags are ambush predators, so they love structure. Spring and fall are prime seasons when water temps are just right. Anglers enjoy targeting gags not just for the challenge, but also for their firm, white fillets. When you're after these guys, use heavy tackle and substantial live bait like pinfish or grunts. One local trick: once you hook up, crank hard and fast to pull them away from their hidey-holes before they can break you off. It's a real rush when you feel that first powerful headshake!

Grey Snapper, also called Mangrove Snapper, are a staple catch in Biscayne Bay. These fish typically run 1 to 4 pounds inshore, but can get up to 10 pounds offshore. You'll find them around structure like mangroves, docks, and reefs in depths from 5 to 100 feet. They're opportunistic feeders, so they'll hit a variety of baits. Summer is prime time when they gather to spawn, especially around the full moon. Anglers love targeting greys for their tasty white meat and the fun, light-tackle action they provide. When fishing for them, use a light fluorocarbon leader - they've got sharp eyes and can be leader-shy. Here's a local trick: chum heavily to get them fired up, then free-line a small live shrimp or pilchard in the chum slick. The bite can be fast and furious when you get them going!

King Mackerel, or Kingfish, are one of the fastest fish in these waters. They typically run 10 to 20 pounds, but 40-pounders aren't uncommon. You'll find them in open water from just off the beach out to several miles offshore. Kings are voracious predators, known for their blistering runs and acrobatic jumps. Spring and fall are prime seasons when they migrate through. Anglers love targeting kings for their high-speed trolling action and their tasty, though strong-flavored, meat. When fishing for them, use wire leaders - their razor-sharp teeth will slice through mono. Here's a local trick: troll with two lines, one deeper than the other. Use a planer or downrigger to get that deeper bait down where the big ones often lurk. When a king hits, hang on tight - the first run is usually the fastest!

Red Grouper are a hard-fighting, good-eating fish we target year-round here. They usually run 5 to 15 pounds, but can get up to 50 in deeper water. You'll find them hanging around rocky bottoms and reefs in depths from 60 to 300 feet. These fish are aggressive feeders, so they'll hit a variety of baits and lures. Winter and spring are often best, when they move a bit shallower. Anglers love Red Grouper for their firm, white fillets and the strong pull when you hook one. They're known for trying to dive back into their rocky lairs, so you've got to turn them quick. When targeting reds, use heavy tackle and substantial baits like live pinfish or squid. Here's a tip: once you find a spot holding Red Grouper, work it thoroughly. These fish often congregate in numbers, so where there's one, there's likely more.

Scamp Grouper are a favorite target for many anglers here in Miami. These fish typically run 4 to 8 pounds, but trophy-sized ones can hit 20+. You'll find them lurking around deep reefs and ledges, usually in 150 to 300 feet of water. Scamps are known for their excellent table fare - some say they're the best-tasting grouper out there. They're called "The Captain's Meat" for a reason! These fish put up a good fight, especially on lighter tackle. Spring and fall are prime seasons when water temps are ideal. When targeting scamp, try using live bait like pinfish or cigar minnows. Here's a pro tip: once you feel the bite, give them a second to really take the bait before setting the hook. That'll improve your chances of landing these tasty fish.
