Ready to hit some of Miami's hottest wreck sites? This 4-hour morning charter with Bear Cut Bandit Charters puts you right where the big fish hang out - around county wrecks and natural reefs in the crystal-clear waters off Miami Beach. Captain Alek knows these waters like the back of his hand, and he'll make sure you're fishing the most productive spots using proven techniques that consistently produce keeper fish. Whether you're a seasoned angler or picking up a rod for the first time, this trip delivers the kind of action that keeps people coming back season after season.
Your morning starts bright and early as we cruise out from Miami Beach toward some of the most fish-rich waters in South Florida. We're talking about exploring Haulover and Biscayne Bay areas where underwater structures create perfect ambush points for hungry gamefish. The boat holds up to 6 anglers, so you'll have plenty of room to work without feeling crowded. Captain Alek tailors each trip based on current conditions, tides, and what's been biting lately. Some days we'll focus heavily on one productive wreck, other times we'll hit multiple spots to keep the action going. The beauty of these waters is there's always something different around each structure - you never know what's going to grab your bait next.
We run the full arsenal of wreck fishing techniques to maximize your chances. Trolling gets us connected with fish as we move between spots, while jigging and deep dropping target the bottom dwellers hanging tight to structure. Live bait drifting is deadly effective when the current's right - there's nothing like watching a big snapper or grouper slam a perfectly presented live bait. Bottom fishing with cut bait or live offerings keeps multiple rods working while we target species that prefer to stay deep. Captain Alek provides quality live bait and knows exactly which technique to deploy based on what we're seeing on the fish finder. The gear is tournament-quality stuff that can handle whatever decides to eat, from feisty snappers to heavyweight grouper that don't want to leave their rocky homes.

Gag Grouper are the prize fighters of Miami's wreck scene. These muscular fish average 15-25 pounds but can push 40+ pounds when you hook into a true giant. They're most active during cooler months from November through March, and they fight like freight trains once hooked. Gags love structure and will dart straight for the closest hole or ledge when they feel steel. What makes them special is their incredible table fare - firm, white meat that's perfect for grilling or frying. The fight is intense but short, making every hookup a heart-pounding experience.
Scamp Grouper might be smaller than their gag cousins, but they're scrappy fighters with beautiful coloration. Most scamp run 3-8 pounds, though occasional teenagers show up to surprise you. They're year-round residents on our local wrecks, preferring deeper water and complex structure. Scamp have this habit of stacking up in good numbers, so when you find one, there's usually more nearby. Their delicate, sweet meat makes them a favorite among anglers who appreciate quality over quantity. They're also curious fish that often investigate baits before committing, making the bite exciting to watch.
Grey Snapper, or mangrove snapper as locals call them, are the masters of making you work for every fish. These smart, spooky fish require finesse and patience, but the reward is worth it. They range from hand-sized juveniles to hefty 8-pound adults that know every trick in the book. Peak action happens during warmer months when they're more aggressive, but they bite year-round if you present baits properly. Grey snapper have incredible eyesight and will inspect your offering carefully before deciding to eat. When they do commit, the fight is bulldogging strong with multiple runs toward structure.
Red Grouper are the workhorses of Miami wreck fishing, offering consistent action and excellent eating. These copper-colored bruisers average 8-15 pounds and fight with pure bottom-hugging power. They're most active during spring and fall months when water temperatures are moderate. Red grouper have this awesome habit of following hooked fish toward the surface, giving you multiple shot opportunities. Their curiosity often works in your favor - they'll investigate commotion and sometimes grab baits intended for other species. The meat is firm and mild, perfect for fish tacos or blackened preparations that South Florida is famous for.
Miami Beach wreck fishing doesn't get much better than this. You're getting a top-rated captain who knows exactly where to find fish, quality tackle and bait, and access to some of the most productive fishing grounds in South Florida. The 4-hour timeframe gives you enough time to hit multiple spots without wearing yourself out, and the morning schedule means you'll be back at the dock with time to enjoy the rest of your day. Whether you're looking to put dinner on the table or just want to feel that rod bend with a quality fish, this charter delivers consistent results. Captain Alek's patience with beginners and knowledge of advanced techniques means everyone

Gag grouper are tough fighters that love hiding around our local wrecks and reefs in 30-150 feet. These chunky fish average 20 inches but can hit 50+ pounds on the big end. They're not the prettiest grouper - mostly gray with dark marbled patterns - but they make up for looks with attitude. Gags will try to drag you straight back into the structure once hooked, so keep that drag tight and don't give them an inch. Best months are fall through early spring when they're more active. Live pinfish and mullet work great, but cut crab is deadly too. Pro tip: keep your rod low and muscle them up fast - if they get back in the rocks, you're done.

Grey snapper, or mangrove snapper as most locals call them, are smart fish that'll test your patience. These copper-red beauties average 1-2 pounds inshore but can hit 20 pounds in deeper water. They love structure - docks, mangroves, wrecks, and grass flats where they ambush prey. Being nocturnal, evening trips often produce better action. What makes them special is the sweet, flaky white meat that's hard to beat on the dinner table. They're opportunistic but spooky, so less movement is better. Live shrimp hooked through the tail works best. My go-to tip: let your bait sit still near the bottom - too much bobbing will spook these wary fish. Once you feel that tap, wait a beat before setting the hook.

Red grouper are the bread and butter of our deep water fishing, making up most of the grouper we catch around Miami's reefs and wrecks. These rusty-red fish with white spots typically run 5-10 pounds but can push 40+ on a good day. They live on hard bottom from 30-200 feet and are aggressive feeders that'll hit live or cut bait hard. The meat has this unique shellfish taste from their crab and shrimp diet - absolutely fantastic eating. They're tough fighters that don't give up easy, so be ready for a battle. Shrimp, crab, and live pinfish are top baits. Best fishing is outside spawning season (May-December). Pro tip: use circle hooks and heavy tackle - once they grab your bait, they're heading straight for the rocks.

Scamp grouper are hands down the best eating fish in the grouper family - that's why old-timers call them "captain's meat." These chocolate-brown beauties with their distinctive long tail rays hang around deep structure from 75-300 feet, though they'll move shallower during spring spawning season. Most run 4-6 pounds, but the occasional 20+ pounder will test your gear. They're slow but incredibly strong fighters that'll give you a real workout. Peak season is February through May when they're spawning. Live sardines and cigar minnows are top baits. Local trick: use heavier tackle than you think - 40-50 pound line minimum. Once hooked, they fight dirty and dive straight for cover.
